As part of a recent keynote I gave to the PGCE students at the University of Leicester I presented the following video about integrating technology into the classroom.

As part of my ‘Are you up to IcT?‘ CPD material for teachers in my school I will be creating short video demonstrations of tech tools for classroom use; here’s a demo of Sqworl and how you could use it as part of your ICT toolkit.

Here’s a sqworl site I made earlier using bookmarks from delicious. Delicious will be my next video demo.

As an ICT Coordinator in my school one of my responsibilities is to ensure that the staff, as well as the children, are using technology effectively and are up to date with new practices and tools. To achieve this I have put together a 12 week course that should go some length to addressing this. The course is due to start next week so I’ve got quite a bit to put together before then. But here’s the outline of what I’m proposing to do and over the next few weeks as the course progresses I will update this blog on what occurs, staff feedback on the course, reactions to the training I give and what works/doesn’t work.

This course will not be based on listening to me waffling on. It’s hands on at all times.

I’m also going to record my short sessions for embedding on this blog.

Initial outline

  • Two 10 min demo sessions every Tues+Thurs lunchtimes involving using IWB tools effectively
  • Taking photos with PSP using effect filters and transferring to a PC
  • Using a school delicious account
  • Comic life and why it should be part of your ICT toolkit
  • Web 2.0 tools for class – voicethread and animoto to begin with
  • Recording and playing back a lesson demonstration using a visualiser
  • Netbook tips and using dropbox to store much needed lesson material
  • Windows7 tips and shortcuts
Also one hour after school sessions involving
  • Using our VLE (Fronter) and keeping an online profile of student work
  • Using Ranger Primary to control students in suite and creating lessons with RangerRemote
  • Animation for beginners and make your own blue screen

I hope it can be of some help to any of you wishing to get your own staff up to speed.
