You are absolutely spot on there John. This short term blog kept the momentum going and was a perfect addition to our project. Combined with the freedom to learn and choice of tools to meet that learning the project was an outstanding success with everyone describing it as the best week in school ever.
Thanks for your posts and following the blog throughout the week :-)

Allowing the class the freedom to explore for themselves was what gave this project a life of its own. The children enjoyed it immensely as did I and it has given me time to reflect on my own approaches to teaching and learning in the classroom. A little more openness goes a long, long way.

I would certainly advise the use of Posterous as a blogging platform for any age group and I'll be watching to find out how you use it worth your class too. Thanks for the comment and I am happy to know that this project has inspired you :-)

Great work Kevin. I must echo John's comment in that it is lovely to hear about a class being given such freedom. I am positive that this will have had as significant an impact on them as learning to use the blog itself. I also think that the success of the project lies in thoughtful planning and challenging but achievable outcomes being set from the start.

Posterous certainly looks like a great blogging platform for use in schools. Seeing the success of your project has cemented for me, my decision to get next year's Year 12 Media students to use it instead of Blogger. One of the main reasons being that you can upload the audio direct. I really enjoyed listening to the recordings that your students uploaded. I felt that the audio files were one of the best features of the blog.

Thanks for sharing this on your blog with us. It's inspiring stuff!

I really enjoyed watching the blog unfold last week so it is great to get some background details of how it came about. Lovely to hear about a class been given freedom and choice in direction and tools.
I am a firm believer in short term as well as long term classroom blogging and I love posterous. Short term blogging is, I think, a great way to add any short term project, trip or collaboration in class. By setting limits in time and scope for the blog makes it more doable and less likely to lose focus or drift off which can happen with long term class blogs.
